Mr. Smith, a native Phoenician, has been professionally involved in investment management since 1987. A second-generation investment advisor, he worked earlier in his career in partnership with his highly-respected father, Robert C. Smith, now deceased. It was during this time that Smith acquired the fundamental disciplines that evolved into his current investment approach. Smith’s experience includes management of assets of more than $250 million for institutions and individuals. Mr. Smith’s primary responsibilities include managing his client’s investment portfolios, the identification of new investment opportunities, monitoring existing portfolio investments, monitoring current developments in investment management theory, and the statistical measurement of portfolio performance. Mr. Smith has successfully completed level two in pursuit of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
In February 2009, Mr. Smith joined Moors & Cabot, Inc. as a Senior Vice President, Investments, after having most recently served as Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager in the Phoenix, Arizona office of UBS Financial Services, Inc. Mr. Smith works out of the Phoenix, Arizona office practicing in Private Client Wealth Management.
In addition to his investment management role, Mr. Smith serves in fiduciary and/or member capacities with a variety of foundations and non-profit institutions including:
- Co-Trustee, Nierling Memorial Foundation ($10 million + corpus for various charitable community purposes);
- Trustee, Boy Scouts of America, Grand Canyon Council Executive Board;
- Trustee, Arizona Science Center;
- Past board member and past chairman, board of trustees, All Saints' Episcopal Day School;
- Member, CFA Institute;
- Member, Phoenix CFA Society;
- Portfolio advisor, Boy Scouts of America Grand Canyon Council Endowment Fund;
- Member, Paradise Valley Country Club;
- Member, Scottsdale Charros.
Mr Smith’s educational background consists of Associate in Occupational Studies, Culinary Arts, Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York, with honors (1986); Bachelor of Science, Business Administration, College of Finance, Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, Summa Cum Laude, (1992).
Mr. Smith, a Phoenix resident, has two children. He enjoys cooking, skiing, and plays ice hockey.
