Before joining Moors & Cabot in 2022, I worked for 11 years at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and 10 years at Wells Fargo Advisors. By acting as a fiduciary for my clients, I evaluate their combination of potential income streams in retirement, whether they be fixed (pension, annuity or social security), or variable (lump sum rollover, 401k, IRA’s, business sale or investments). The advisor should educate the client to the pluses and minuses of each, establishing a plan for retirement with the highest likelihood for success based on the goals of the client. A well-built plan would include offense and defense while monitored on an on-going basis. Clients should expect to be able to communicate as needed with their advisor. Working at Moors & Cabot helps to ensure that there is no conflict of interest in the advice given to the client.

I hold a bachelors degree in biochemistry from SUNY Geneseo where I was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. With an emphasis on continuing education, I also became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner in 2005. My wife, Leslie Appel, DVM, and I live in Ithaca, New York with our children Bailey (16) and Boden (15), where we are active in the community. Most weekends are spent coaching 20+ 9th graders with the TC HOOPS basketball program. I am an avid outdoorsman; other areas of interest include gardening, cooking, downhill skiing and golf. I also enjoy watching Bailey perform as a Senior Company Dancer with the Ithaca Ballet.
