Professional Career:

Michael J. Surprenant began his financial planning career at Fidelity Investments in 1995. He was chosen to pilot two of their original High Net Worth client initiatives; The Premium Services Group and then The Private Access Group, working with clients with a liquid net worth of $2M and above at that time.

In early 2000, Michael recognized an opportunity to continue to develop and refine his professional financial planning expertise and accepted a position at JP Morgan Private Bank.  He joined a team of three advisors/traders where together they managed client assets of over $500M. Michael worked directly with the investment-banking team and alongside the pre-IPO business owners to fully develop and diversify their portfolios.

Michael’s role has always been to work closely with the firm's most valued clients on a multitude of important planning topics. These experiences built a broad foundation of knowledge and experience that he has taken to establish his own comprehensive financial planning practice. Over the past two decades, he has grown his planning practice to assist clients with services including:

Portfolio Review, Development, Implementation and Management.  Equity & Fixed Income Trading, Trust & Estate Planning, Elder Care Law, Life Insurance and Annuity Services, Small Business 401K/PS/Pension Plans, Small Business Succession Planning, Charitable Giving and Donor Advised Funds, Cash Management Services, Equity & Option Trading, Retirement and Income Planning, and more.

Michael has been happily collaborating with his clients at Moors & Cabot, Inc. for over a decade, joining the firm in November of 2012.

Investment Philosophy:

Michael believes that true financial planning is a holistic experience. It is a process and a relationship that is always evolving. He believes that every facet of a client's life has some effect on their portfolio. Their past experiences, expectations, preferences, goals, religion, family, means, taxes, risk tolerances, fears and many other factors account for the development of a client portfolio. By taking the time, upfront and ongoing, to understand his client’s needs & goals, then utilizing Moors & Cabot’s world-class financial planning tools, Michael provides innovative and truly personalized financial solutions for his clients.

Personal Life:

Michael lives on the south shore of Boston with his wife of over 29 years. They together have three wonderful adult children who are the pride of their lives. Portuguese Water Dogs Ms. Gracie and Baxter (as in the ME state park!) chaotically round out the family. Michael and his family are actively involved with organizations such as The Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Michael loves spending time with his family and friends anytime/anywhere on the water, the golf course, the beach, cooking and/or traveling.
